My verdict
The Airwrap is my blowout tool for the days I want big, smooth hair without a flat iron. The i.d. version reads your hair from the app and runs the curl timing for you, which makes the wrap and cool shot foolproof. It is expensive and it is not a crimper; for beach waves I still reach for the Wavytalk. For a bouncy blowout on long, thick hair it is the one I use.
How I use it
- Towel-dried damp hair, heat protectant.
- Rough dry to about eighty percent with the dryer attachment.
- Wrap sections on the barrel and let the auto-cycle finish with the cool shot.
- Smoothing brush on the front pieces.
- Pin the curls while they cool.
Who this is for
Medium to thick hair, anyone who wants a blowout at home without hot plates.
Who this is not for
Fine or very short hair may find the barrels too big. If the budget is tight, a hot brush gets you most of the way there.
Questions I get about it
Is the Airwrap damaging?
It styles with air, not hot plates, which is easier on hair than a curling iron. Still use heat protectant.
Does the curl hold?
On my hair through the next day. Pinning the curls while they cool is the trick.
Airwrap or the Wavytalk crimper?
Different looks. This is a blowout, the crimper is beach waves. I own both for different days.
